Marisa Tomei In Peter Pilotto – LONDON Show ROOMS Cocktail Party

Marisa Tomei joined Emma Roberts at Smashbox Studios in West Hollywood yesterday, to celebrate the opening cocktail party hosted by the British Fashion Council for the London Show Rooms.

The actress wore a Peter Pilotto Spring 2012 ¾-sleeve dress.

Her ocean-inspired printed crepe dress with crystal-embellished details and a scuba-style zipper was teamed with simple nude pumps.

Rightly so, because this amazing dress should be the focus.

With her hair nonchalantly thrown over one shoulder, Marisa completed her look with neutral makeup and glossy pink lips.

paris fashion week: a shaded view on film

Now that the first Paris screening of her fashion film festival has just closed, A Shaded View on Fashion’s Diane Pernet finally has time to sit down. The three-day program included intimate documentaries about Alexander McQueen (in his pre-Gucci Group days) and John Galliano by producer Madeleine Czigler and Tim Blanks (in his pre-Style.com days), which packed the house, as well as an hour-and-a-half-long presentation of international clips by known entities such as Nick Knight, Jeremy Scott, and Diane herself (her entry was a documentary on the reclusive master of corsetry, Mr. Pearl) and a couple of dozen lesser-knowns. An entry from the latter camp, Pattern Film by Anemone Skjoldager (pictured), swept the audience’s votes for the Prix du Public, while the international jury awarded sunglasses-shaped trophies for first place to Camille Vivier for Jenny Haniver, a series of six portraits of teenagers (Jeremy Scott came in second with his tongue-in-cheek Video Look Book). If you missed this year’s edition, a selection will be available on the film festival’s site in November—but not all of them. “After all, the whole point of the festival is to get people away from computers,” says Pernet.—Tina Isaac

Katy Perry In Elie Saab – House of Hype 2011 MTV Music Video Awards After-Party

Katy Perry attended House of Hype’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards After-Party on Sunday night in LA.

After her quirky Atelier Versace and Christian Dior Couture choices, she opted for a sophisticated yet flirty Elie Saab Resort 2012 ensemble.

She paired a chartreuse chiffon blouse with a snakeskin belt and black satin pencil skirt.

The hair doesn’t quite work for me with her look, but Katy never follows the fashion rules.

Giuseppe Zanotti suede cobalt blue jeweled peep toes completed her look.

A Dress Fit For A Fairy-Tale Princess—Courtesy Of Donatella Versace

Cheburashka. Bremenskie Muzikanti. If you have a hard time pronouncing the table names at Natalia Vodianova’s White Fairy Tale Love Ball, you won’t be alone. “Natalia is driving the calligrapher crazy,” Giancarlo Giammetti said yesterday at his Left Bank home. The Russian supermodel is, as she put it, “in the last few hundred yards of a marathon,” preparing for the fundraiser for her Naked Heart Foundation being held at Valentino’s Chateau Wideville outside Paris tomorrow night. Vodianova’s kids’ favorite Soviet-era cartoons (Google the Russian names above for vintage clips) partly inspired the gala. “A charity fashion show isn’t a new idea; it’s been done by many people,” she said. “But I thought fairy-tale dresses—the ultimate Cinderella dresses—by the world’s top designers would be something interesting.” Forty-five of fashion’s finest agreed to create gowns for the evening’s auction. Vodianova thinks Donatella Versace’s kokoshnik dress (pictured) will be a hit. “She went for it,” she said. The funds raised will go to Naked Heart’s new efforts to support children with special needs. And what is the fairy-tale spinner herself wearing for the occasion? Valentino red, of course, “like Little Red Riding Hood.”—Nicole Phelps

Michelle Obama For Vogue US March 2009

The first lady of American fashion – Michelle Obama – grace the cover of the March edition of US Vogue.

Annie Leibovitz shot the cover, of Michelle relaxed wearing a magenta silk sheath dress by Jason Wu, who also designed her inaugural gown.

Michelle is the second first lady to be on the magazine’s cover, after Hillary Clinton.

The magazine dedicates 8 pages to Michelle, who describes her role as “mum-in-chief” to 10-year-old Malia and seven-year-old Sasha.

“I’m going to try to take them to school every morning, as much as I can,” she said.

When the topic moved to fashion Michelle said she was aware of how her wardrobe was being scrutinised, but she made no apologies for her choices.

“I’m not going to pretend that I don’t care about it,” she said.

“But I also have to be very practical. In the end, someone will always not like what you wear – people just have different tastes.”

Love At First Sight: Blasblog Edition

What: Nylon’s Nikes

Why: Although I’m spared from vertiginous-heel-related pain during fashion month, I know many an editor and girl-about-town who yearns for a flatter option, even if just for between-show activities. So when I saw Nylon’s Dani Stahl working her magazine’s kicks (Nylon paired with Nike to make some super-bright low-tops), I knew I’d found a potential arch saver. “The ultimate sneaker fanatic is my boss, Marvin Scott Jarrett, who has scoured the globe for the best trainers,” Stahl told me. “But the Nylon girl loves her kicks. So we’re happy to give them to her.”

When: Officially this June, but we spotted the fluorescent sneakers during New York fashion week, so keep your eyes peeled for London, Milan, and Paris sightings.

Where: www.nikesportswear.com.

There’s Gold In Them Colorado Hills

Jewelry designer Alyssa Norton has got a whole new bag. Several of them, in fact. Norton scooped up a handful of chain-mail evening bags from the twenties when she was in Colorado last month, and she’s been furiously working them over ever since, adding extra-long straps in her signature braided silk and embellishing with vintage rhinestones. The results are available now, via www.alyssanorton.com, and mark Norton’s first foray into bag design. “It’s sort of a late-breaking holiday collection,” she notes, “as well as being an experiment in expansion. I’ve thought for a while that bags would be the logical next thing, and I’ve always loved that twenties style.” Insofar as the vintage bags are hard to find at a reasonable price, Norton anticipates making her own drawstring pouches to work off of as she continues to develop the range. In the meantime, she reports that she lucked into enough of the vintage styles in Colorado that she’ll be including versions (all one of a kind) in her Fall ‘10 collection, as well.—Maya Singer

X Factor: Sunday Week 3 – Dannii Minogue In Dolce & Gabbana

I loved Dannii Minogue’s Dolce & Gabbana dress which she wore on the X Factor results show on Sunday night.

The Fall floral print was really beautiful. I also loved the voluminous skirt and sexy sweetheart neckline.

My major issue with this look is the hair.

Yes I’m complaining about her hair for the 3 week running, but ombre hair doesn’t suit someone as classy as Dannii.

I wish she’s leave this unfortunate trend to the likes of Rachel Bilson.

Black Charlotte Olympia Paloma satin platform pumps completed her look.

“The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee” New York Screening

I see trouble ahead for the rumoured Victoria Beckham Collection Spring 2010 campaign girl.

In an interview with Allure magazine, Victoria Beckham said “Don’t have all your legs out and all your boobs out. Cover something up”.

Ooops Blake obvisoulsy doesn’t live by that rule, and why should she when she looks this fabulous.

The Gossip Girl actress looked stunning wearing a beautiful bow-fronted Marchesa Spring 2010 white embroidered blazer with black shorts.

J’Adore.  She can’t do wrong for me at the moment.

Sophia Bush was covered up wearing a Helmut Lang powder print dress, but that didn’t stop her looking any less fabulous.

I’m glad to see Sophia is not sticking to the obvious labels and trying something new for a refreshing change, as it helps her stand out from all the Hollywood starlet Herve Leger wearing clones.

Sophia and I obviously have the same taste, as I added this dress to my favourites this week.

Julianne Moore’s Viktor & Rolf Spring 2010 tuxedo jacket-like draped dress is soften without the sleeves.

I really like the modification, but if she was going to wear tights that thick she might as well have stuck with the original runway version.

Writer/director Rebecca Miller wasn’t about to be outdone by these actresses.

She also glammed for this screening by donning a very chic tailored Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2009 keyhole black dress with a red floral design, a high collar and gathered sleeves.

European actresses Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz seemed to be inseparable, as I couldn’t find a picture of them apart.

Cruz wore head-to-toe black, whereas Marion stood out by wearing a taupe dress with embellished details.

I much preferred Robin Wright Penn as a blonde.

I understand she wants to ‘wash that man right outta her hair’, but brunette was not the way forward for her.

What’s with all the drastic colour changes lately?  First McPhee, now Robin.

Also the Herve Leger dress isn’t really doing anything good for her.
